Author Duane Schexnayder will discuss his book, One Foot in Front of the Other

In 2019, Duane Schexnayder hiked the 2200 miles of the Appalachian Trail, beginning in Georgia and ending in Maine. He has completed his book, One Foot in Front of the Other, outlining his Why. In vivid detail he describes his experiences on the adventure, to include growing closer to his faith, the solitude & beauty of the forest, the extreme physical & mental challenges, as well as some of the incredible people that he met along the way.

“I believe that the pages of my book may speak to people who enjoy the majesty of nature, while providing inspiration to meet the relentless challenges of today’s society.”

Duane Schexnayder is a retired police officer who has served Louisiana communities for over 33 years. Beginning his career as a sheriff ’s deputy, he later transitioned to the Louisiana State Police where he worked his way up the ranks to become a commander with the agency.

Residing in the small community of Vacherie, LA with his wife of 38 years, Rachael, he raised a family of four successful children who share his passion for nature. Along with his children’s spouses and his very active grandchildren, Schexnayder embraces a full family life and his faith.

As an outdoorsman, Schexnayder can most often be found working in his garden, building and fixing things in his shed, or hiking, hunting, and fishing. He is most comfortable out in the Gulf of Mexico and the marsh, bayous, woods, and sugarcane fields of South Louisiana, reveling in

the beauty of nature and enjoying its majestic sunrises and sunsets.
